recent.

haven't updated in a while event-wise.

i was finally able to hang out with kuya linden and the bestest elise last wednesday. i met up with linden in chino hills, then we headed out to elise's work in newport beach. she showed us her twilight-ified office. we then headed out for some soooosheee. linden spoiled me by paying for my meal. woot. afterwards, linden and i went to bevmo to find a beer to bring home and try while we watched glee. by the way: linden has hair now... wtf!?

photo
kuya with hair.

then friday was gilbert's little shindig. by the time i got there he was plastered and throwing up in a sink. gilbertfail. he passes out and everyone draws on him. but somehow he wakes up and can enjoy the company for a little bit.. before passing out again. BUT an awesome event happened that night. five generations of kuyas and adings were present. kevin, his kuya mark, mark's kuya froi, froi's kuya which is me, and my kuya linden. lineage.

five generations of kuyas and adings
generations.

saturday was huy's dinner at joe's sushi. i guess i can consider myself a regular there now considering i'm always welcome with hugs from the waitresses and high fives with the main chef.. and free alcohol.. waitress julie was kinda drunk and tried getting me to dance with her. it was really awkward. so she tries to bribe me with alcohol by pouring sake into my mouth and getting it all over my clothes. fun night. but wtf?!

then later saturday night was rj's 21st bday celebration at his place in eagle rock. and of course, by the time we all get there, he's plastered and throwing up in a trashcan. but magically again, he wakes up around 5am and is able to enjoy our company for a little bit! he was able to take pictures with us and now he can actually remember us being there.. we end up leaving a LOT later than i would have desired. should have just driven myself there.

photo
rj and i. not too bad a picture of him considering his.. condition?

checked out bMod's set for the bridge at their little pre-show. gonna go and support them at their competition :D can't be pulling a Scott's Tots on them..

and.. is it sad that my iPhone has kinda replaced my actual digital camera? gah. gonna need to start taking it around more often.

epic.

so far, i've been having a very spur of the moment Halloween weekend. and it has been nothing but great.

thursday: RA sushi for andrew's birthday. cpp to visit bMod and api scary story night. dc house. froi's house. esteban! almost ended the night horribly though. but we lucked out!

yesterday (friday): disneyland with froi, lauren, rodney, angie, greg, and erin. only there for about 4 hours but we did quite a lot. dinner at the Hat afterwards for random funnies. then froi's house. it's 1:56am. we decide to get beer. but we only have 4 minutes to do it. we manage to get everyone out of the house, into the car, drive all the way to the nearest 7-eleven, park and run inside, assembly line six 40's of Mickey's to the counter, throw all our money at the guy, and the transaction goes through with 2:00am printed on our receipt. NOTHING BUT EPIC. we play an intense game of estaban! someone (i forget who) decides it would be a great idea if we all got a pumpkin from outside and carve them for Halloween. worst/best idea ever as carving pumpkins were a first time for all of us, and they were surprisingly disgusting but turned out awesome. carving pumpkins is tiring, but i was not about to drive home after how the previous night almost ended. so i took the next available sleeping area, froi's bed. blahahah. thanks ading.

absence.

bMod audition workshops are finished. my first stress-free audition process! so stress-free that I was able to take the workshops! the last time I danced was in May for the Level 3 performance, which I didn't even plan to be my last performance, but as my cards were laid out, it was.

and what does not dancing for 5 months, then taking the workshops mean for me? a very sore body. yesterday after taking Eddie's workshop, my back was in dire pain. then today after taking Karl's, my legs are now incredibly painful. but the workshops were awesome and I was finally able to dance next to the Summer team, who claims to have never seen me dance.

had a good handful of founding member visits including Cesar, Jay and Dee, Coleen, Jason, Arvin, Jackie, and myself. with supposed visits by Kyleen and Jean on Thursday.

pretty good turnout for their auditions as well. excited to see how "the next generation" does.

....and I had In&Out two nights in a row.. so bad and unhealthy!!

gone.

it's definitely weird... not being on bMod anymore. something that engulfed my life and was literally my life for a good 4 years. everythings changed: i don't go to practices anymore, I visit them. from running practices, directing an entire team and training a new board to not even saying a single word at practice. it is definite culture shock.

while I am still sticking around to help out wherever it is needed, my slow parting is still a parting nonetheless. it's bittersweet. not having my phone blow up before every practice with more excuses of lateness. not having to be liable and responsible for an entire group's sometimes unacceptable behavior and actions. not having to deal with complaints, contradicting criticisms, the drama that I get dragged into, and that constant nagging in the back of my head thinking "is bMod ok?" "is everyone accounted for?" "am I doing the right things?"

of course it wasn't all bad. very little of it was bad actually -- it's just so much easier to list. but even though, the bad is still something I'm going to miss. I'm going to miss coming to practice and seeing all the faces of peoples lives I may have impacted and changed. I'm going to miss that feeling of purpose that I got the moment I saw the team.. that feeling of being needed... being relevant. i am in no way asking for credit or recognition. all I ask is that bMod strives to live and love, and cherishes the traditions that made it not only a team, but a genuine family to those who needed one. bMod helped me grow as a dancer, a leader, and a person. and because of everything I've learned from being on and directing the team, I am forever indebted.

I'm proud as far as where the team stands now. if I wasn't, I wouldn't be leaving.  I'm confident in who's hands now hold and guide the team.

like I said, it's bittersweet. I never wanted it to stop, but I'm glad that it has. and I've come to accept that years from now.. heck, even just a few weeks from now when auditions roll around, the last founding members will become lost in bMod history. recognized? I'm sure of it. but remembered as we were when we left? I doubt it.. we will slowly and simply be names on a page.

level.

bmod had their performance at level three the other day. so proud of them considering this set didn't have too much input from me or jackie. it's like the training wheels are removed. :)

performance is HERE.

and arvin pointed out something really interesting. this performance was on the same night of bMod's debut in 2005. amazing!

birthday.

my birthday has come and gone. and despite a very dramatic entrance into the day, it turned out pretty awesome.

started out with lunch at home. then I was off to disneyland to meet up with Kat and Zugey. but before meeting them, I made a quick stop at the ticket booths to redeem my birthday gift card. then used the gift card to add parking to my annual pass. finally met up with Kat and Zugey. explored the Innoventions "House of the Future" for a bit then rode Space Mountain which had almost no wait whatsoever. after watching the two girls eat, we headed to the Rivers of America to sit down and wait for Fantasmic! to start. Froi, Rodney, Kevin, and Lauren joined us wet after riding Splash Mountain. we were lucky to have been one of the first people to finally see Murphy the dragon breathe her fiery breath! it was nothing less than epic.

I had to head back to Chino Hills to make the dinner at my sister's. they presented me with tacos and cake and a new iPhone! got it up and running and fully synced with my laptop in a matter of minutes. woot!

headed over to bMod practice to visit the kiddies and to see how practice was going. chilled in the parking lot for a bit then finally headed home.

the day before my birthday and the day after proved to be quite the dark clouds surrounding my big day, but I didn't let them affect me in the least bit. I got to see Murphy for one, hot to see her breathe fire, my fam got me a technerd device I've wanted, and spent it with some awesome people.

updatation.

on august 16th, i went to disneyland to celebrate Alex's 20th birthday. it was nothing less than awesome. had a first time experience on the Explorer Canoes finally, and sat front and center for Fantasmic!, and had some awesome Catch-A-Flave ice scream courtesy of his dad. had some fun with the ride pictures too:

during the car wash, neil and i made a random decision to go to disneyland when the car wash was done. we let all the team passholders in on our plan and Jean was happy to join us. i went home after cleaning up at the car wash and took a quick shower, then we were on our way to the happy place. got there and i went into the Animation Building for the first time ever. it is AMAZING in there! i highly recommend it to those who have passed it up like i did. we then took jean to the "It's Tough to Be a Bug" 4-D show. jean got scared. we then went to Catch-A-Flave for some awesome treats. i ordered (and paid for) a regular sized ice cream.. and got the biggest ice cream ever. we finished our day by crossing over to the other park to visit Anthony, who was working at the Disney Credit Card kiosk. headed back home afterwards to host a kickback at my place. good people. good music. hookah. beer pong. and drunk conversations carried the night all the way to 6AM when everyone finally left and i was able to sleep. all in all a very busy but fun day: bmod carwash, disneyland, kickback. awesome.

train.

what is up with my non-updating-ness?

last weekend, july 24-26: a little chunk of bMod headed for a weekend in Vegas. can we say HOT? and HUMID? but all-in-all a very laid back and chill experience. yes, Vegas CAN be relaxing. i felt bad for Mike because he was paying a grip for his friend that came along, so he couldn't get himself much to enjoy the trip. i tried to be the nice guy and surprise-bought him a beer from the bar. totally forgot he doesn't drink beer. fail on me. but i got to conquer the bachelorette hot dog at Serendipity. it was really good, especially with the bacon, nacho cheese, and chili. but i got owned after finishing it. had that full feeling that wouldn't go away. but still a good weekend. and we bumped into christian, jaypeg, d, gerald, and kat while there!

CIMG2070
can't really grasp the size of it from this picture, but look for the knife and compare

within the week, i was doing graphical work for JayVee Studios.. and doing a lot of driving to pick up and deliver the graphic prints..

friday night, i randomly decided to meet up with rj, neil p, jasmine, texas, and hannah to go to geronaga's moving out party. it was quite random and very.. yeah. made it fun for what it's worth, but we didn't stay too long.

yesterday, i met up with gigz, his brother jay, his little cousin j-boy, kwaku, and cynthia for some coldstone ice cream. by the way, i like the cotton candy ice cream a lot, but the cotton candy taste only lasts for a little bit then starts to taste like vanilla (which i still like, so win-win). we headed back to gigz' house for a bit, then went to buffalo wild wings for dinner. car ride back to gigz' = wild karaoke session from jay. haha. got back to gigz' and literally chilled in the backyard for a couple hours talking about the most random things. i haven't laughed that much in a while, and what surprises me is that 1. i was with a group of people i don't normally hang out with, 2. no alcohol was needed to have a great night -- just good people and good conversation. "... there's CAKE?!" bahhahah

and hey look -- today, august 2nd, is Friendship Day. happy friendship day to all my friends! and if you're not my friend.. sucks to be you!

recap.

blogfail. havent been posting. ah well. the week in quick pics!

so after attending michael jackson's memorial last week, i didn't notice how epic an event it was until i got home and saw all the news coverage and buzz surrounding the incredible event. but considering the epicness of last week, i still had myself quite a week this week.

CIMG2001last saturday, i had much troubles finding my way to vegas for all the festivities. vegasfail. but alas, it was party weekend back at home anyway! started out at neil's residence for his family and friends party. occasion? NOTHING! his family just threw a party to have a party. stocked up on lechon and massive amounts of lumpia. beer pong then ensued. neil and i remained undefeated for the entire duration of the party. we were running low on pong fluids, so kwaku and jay made a quick run. and strolled across the street with a brand new 36-pack as seen in the above picture. as neil's party started to wind down, a handful of us headed out to jasmine's housewarming all the way in riverside. more pong games ensued. as well as dramatics. but all is well as the night ended with bam and thai at denny's. highlight of the night: neil peig finally finding out his drinking limits. ha!

whiteshirts
left to right: bert, myself, jay (neil's little but bigger and older looking brother), danny, neil

on wednesday, i met up with bert to then meet up with neil, danny, jay and jenise at disneyland. neil was taking his family and little cousin's out to their first trip to disneyland. bert, jenise, and i tagged along with the grecia's for the duration of our visit. i knew it was going to be hot. so i came in cargo shorts and any white t-shirt i had. turns out all the other guys had that same mindset. we all wore the same thing -- unplanned. since there were 12 of us in the group including neil's family, we split up in half for splash mountain and had an entire boat each. neil started splashing some water into our own boat which started an all-out fend-for-yourself splashing war on our boat. i'm surprised Disneyland didn't stop the ride and tell us to stop reaching out of the boat and grabbing water. we were completely drenched minutes after the ride had barely left the boarding area. we looked as if we jumped into a pool fully clothed. good thing i decided to put my phone and camera in jenise's purse beforehand. bert and i had to leave the festivities early since he was going out with someone later that night. but that person ended up flaking on him and we could've stayed with the fam at Disneyland. ah well.

fobsyesterday. neil and i decided to continue our Disneyland adventures on our way to the bMod beach day. plus, it was Disneyland's 54th birthday and who would want to miss that?? we were only there for a few hours since we parked at the free downtown disney parking. but we were able to ride on Indiana Jones and Space Mountain which both had pretty long lines. Big Thunder Mtn is the only mountain i haven't been on since i got my annual pass. that needs to be on my to-do list for future visits. we attempted this time, but the ride got stuck as we were about to enter the boarding area.

when our parking time limit was almost up, we left and headed to the beach to meet up with the rest of bMod. had some awesome libations to keep us busy as well as hotdogs and good people. randomness all over the place, and a quick bonding game to end the night around the bonfire. good times with the team. headed home and slept quite early.

independence.

note that any photos in this entry are mine from independence day two years ago, not from yesterday's holiday.

IMGP7933this year's independence day celebration was very relaxed. a bit too relaxed for my taste. you know i'd rather be out partying -- but for the first time in over five years, i had no plans to go out and celebrate. san francisco last year. and matt's house for i think 4 years in a row before that. this was quite a first.

i stayed home and kept my mom company. we had the grill set and had cheeseburgers for lunch. and barbecued ribs for dinner. then we pitched in front of our garage to watch the pomona fairplex fireworks show. after about 7-8 fireworks, the show stopped. we were standing there like, "that's it??" and after about 10 minutes of standing outside looking at nothing in the air, we headed back inside. i'm guessing the recession caught up with the firework purchases this year... i proceeded to ping/tweet our disappointment in the show. not more than 10 minutes after, johnny mags replies to me on facebook saying that the show was just starting. let my mom know, and we re-set ourselves in front of the garage just as the fireworks began. turned out to be a nice enjoyable show with a great finale.

the entire night is filled with booms and cacks from our neighbors firing up their own (and illegal) fireworks. had a nice view from my room of a neighbor with a pretty high quality and consistent collection of pyrotechnics. lasted the night till nearing midnight. so i had myself a nice free show from the comfort of my own room.

IMGP7943

i, actually we -- a handful of bModders, originally planned to go to Disneyland today, but i totally forgot that it's blocked out for non-premium passholders. i don't know why i didn't realize it earlier considering it's independence day weekend. but oh well. that's what monday is for. who's down to go to disneyland on Monday? let me know!

guest choreographer BK stopped by bMod's practice last night to teach a workshop. to my delight, he taught his segment from my ultimate favorite set ever, Common Ground's Vegas set. sick piece. had myself a dancegasm. watch their set HERE. and watch it in high quality. if your Internet connection doesn't allow for it... why are on you even on the Internet? weirdo.

alex brittany and myself. jowena got pwn3d by tinkerbell.

finally buckled down and got myself a Disneyland Annual Pass! It's a deluxe so i have blockout dates throughout some of the year.. boo :( but still awesome at the same time. most of the blockout dates are major holidays and most saturdays.. when i probably would just complain about the huge crowds that are there. went with alex brittany and jowena this past Tuesday. even though it was a lot hotter than i'd want it to be, still had a blast in the 3 hours i was there (had to leave early for bMod practice). managed to ride the Matterhorn, then to CA Adventure to ride Mickey's Fun Wheel on the swinging gondola's *finally!* last time i went (which was only about once or twice in the last 10 years), the group i was with was too scared to ride it. toy story mania was closed, sadly. convinced jowena to ride a roller coaster with a loop for the first time ever in her life with CA Screamin. she did it! got herself a well-deserved ice cream afterwards, watched the pixar parade, then jowena and i headed to practice. alex and britt stayed a bit before heading out to visit.

bMod pool party later on today???

Without you, the ground thaws
the rain falls
the grass grows
Without you, the seeds root
the flowers bloom
the children play

The stars gleam
the poets dream
the eagles fly
without you

The Earth turns
the sun burns
but I die, without you

[...]

Life goes on
but I'm gone
'cause I die, without you

visited.

warning. this is a very nerdy entry.

... and super warning. this is a very long entry.

google chrome has a feature that when you make a new browsing tab, it shows your top 9 most visited websites. i've used the program for quite a while now, so whatever it put as my "top 9" i guess is as accurate and true as it can be. gives me kind of a reality check as to what my online habits and routines are.

9. byronface.com [ link ]
haha shameless plug? no.. full of myself? hm.. maybe.. haha; but in actuality. i guess this made it onto my most visited because i'm always checking to see if i have any new blog comments, or any new followers, or maybe i just want to watch my header images change whenever i refresh the page. also, whenever i post a new blog entry, for some reason i go to my website to see how it actually turned out. byronface.com was and is my first personal website. it's actually pretty fun to keep one. the networld needs more personal webspaces. so many times people say they have a 'website' when they're really just referring to their facebook or myspace page.

8. gmail [ link ]
oh gmail how you've changed the world of email. i remember back in its olden days. everyone freaked out about how you get a whole gigabyte's worth of e-mail storage. even i was amazed. i thought, "who needs a whole gig of email storage??" but i just had to have an account anyway. it was THE new thing. at the time of its release, gmail was an invite only service. early adopters of the service only had 6 gmail invites to give out. i believe i got mine from marvin (@sketch678 on twitter). i think around a year after its debut, on april fool's day, they announced that they'd be expanding email storage to 2 gigs. everyone thought it was a nasty april fool's joke, but it was real. and to this day gmail storage has expanded (slowly) to over 7GBs. it's fast web interface and it's IMAP support (for my Outlook) has made my life in email much easier.

7. flickr [ link ]
yet another website that i adopted early from a referral from marvin. he sent me an invitation to use it back when i still had all my photos stored at Sony's ImageStation (which is now dead, Sony pulled the plug on the service). when ImageStation decided to shut down, i can't say i was very happy.. all the time i took uploading photos is wasted. but then i took up the offer that marvin sent me quite a bit before IS shut down. tried it out. and fell in love with flickr's approach at imagery+community. the interface was also very straightfoward, simple, and very Web 2.0. after uploading a bunch of my pictures, i noticed how limited flickr is with a free account. it is VERY limited. almost to the point that it is practically unusable for the average picture-happy user. so i went ahead and bought a year account for $25. and it is well worth it. anyone on flickr can tell you that buying a PRO account is the only way to go.

6. YouTube [ link ]
i don't even remember the first time i saw a youtube video. that must mean my first experience with it wasn't great. i probably thought, "great.. another video website like ebaumsworld" where it would just be a collection of people doing stupid things, scare videos, people getting pwn3d, etc. but it has developed into quite the video community. people now have video blogs, video tagging games, video responses. i thought it was nothing less than AMAZING when they first introduced the High Quality mode on videos. that was magical. but then i was really taken aback when they introduced the HD videos. quite an evolution that website has seen.

5. twitter [ link ]
oh man, marvin has referred me to a lot of my most visited website/services. and here's another one. i'm not gonna lie. when marvin first sent me the invite to twitter, i was like WTF IS THIS? it's so lame and NO ONE's gonna ever use this regularly. but i kept my account anyway. i was only following a few people and only a few people were following me. but oh man. this thing blew up like a hydrogen bomb that was thrown down a tunnel to blow up a huge electromagnetic energy force (ref. Lost). everyone started getting one. and in no time i was following a bunch. and a bunch were following me. i turn on a good handful of people to my text notifications. and many the same for me. so when i update while out, i see a handful of people grab their phones and check.. Gossip Girl status. haha. but in reality, i've found twitter to be such a help as far as keeping updated (in real time, mind you) with what my friends are doing. also helps when i need a quick bit of info - "just ask everyone on twitter!"

4. barkada modern [ link ]
this needs no explanation except for the fact that i'm always checking up on this site for the shoutbox. pretty much a chatroom on the bmod site. but i have to moderate it as well. there is a curse filter, but sometimes people leak out information that the general public just shouldn't know.. i.e., "OMG I'M SO DRUNK I LOVE YOO GUYZZ OmgGFgggg" kind of shouts.

3. bitsoup [ link ]
bitsoup is my torrent heaven. if you dont know what a torrent is. yeah. i dont feel like explaining it. but its a p2p sharing network. this is where i get 99.999% of all my music, tv shows, movies, games, and software from nowadays. and now that i have FiOS, i've turned into a seedbox. it's pretty awesome because tv shows that air in the east coast are made available to download before it even airs here on the west coast. bitsoup has a 100,000 user limit. so at times registration will be closed. new users are only accepted when bitsoup makes their monthly inactive user purge. the better the upload/download ratio a user has, the less the user has to wait to start downloading new torrents.

2. MySpace [ link ]
blah myspace. i'm not gonna lie. i used the heck out of this thing. but... recently i've found myself using it a lot less. only logging on to post bulletins, or a quick check up on friends. i dont leave anyone comments anymore. and my inactivity has shown as i dont receive many comments anymore either. boggles my mind how much i still go on myspace even though i don't really participate much.

and my most visited website is.....

1. facebook [ link ]
facebook!!! this actually comes to no surprise. i'm always on this site. funny how it happened though. about three years ago, Jenny made me a facebook account because i refused to give in to the hype. but it didn't work out and i just signed on once just to deactivate the account. little did i know that deactivating a facebook account does NOT delete it! so about an entire year later, i was talking to Charmane at work, and we brought up facebook. i told her that i'd still never make an account. then i was bored that same night and made an account. BUT! i was surprised to find out, that when i attempted to make my 'new' account, i had simply reactivated my old one. shortly after i (re)joined, facebook went through a facelift. everyone was complaining and crying about it, but i was happy because i hadn't really used the old interface at all. and just recently they made another interface change. again, everyone griped about it, but i accepted it nicely. while others say it was confusing, i found it more organized. i've loved every update facebook has gone through. and it's so much better than myspace.

My creation

so judging from that top 9, i'm quite the online social networker. blogs, twitter, online social networks.

what SHOULD be in that top 9?? um. monster.com, careerbuilder.com, craigslist.org, etc. haha.

speaking of the job search, i have a story to share regarding a job search related experience i had yesterday. but till then. goodnight!
