absence.

bMod audition workshops are finished. my first stress-free audition process! so stress-free that I was able to take the workshops! the last time I danced was in May for the Level 3 performance, which I didn't even plan to be my last performance, but as my cards were laid out, it was.

and what does not dancing for 5 months, then taking the workshops mean for me? a very sore body. yesterday after taking Eddie's workshop, my back was in dire pain. then today after taking Karl's, my legs are now incredibly painful. but the workshops were awesome and I was finally able to dance next to the Summer team, who claims to have never seen me dance.

had a good handful of founding member visits including Cesar, Jay and Dee, Coleen, Jason, Arvin, Jackie, and myself. with supposed visits by Kyleen and Jean on Thursday.

pretty good turnout for their auditions as well. excited to see how "the next generation" does.

....and I had In&Out two nights in a row.. so bad and unhealthy!!

pass.

guest choreographer BK stopped by bMod's practice last night to teach a workshop. to my delight, he taught his segment from my ultimate favorite set ever, Common Ground's Vegas set. sick piece. had myself a dancegasm. watch their set HERE. and watch it in high quality. if your Internet connection doesn't allow for it... why are on you even on the Internet? weirdo.

dlandtink
alex brittany and myself. jowena got pwn3d by tinkerbell.

finally buckled down and got myself a Disneyland Annual Pass! It's a deluxe so i have blockout dates throughout some of the year.. boo :( but still awesome at the same time. most of the blockout dates are major holidays and most saturdays.. when i probably would just complain about the huge crowds that are there. went with alex brittany and jowena this past Tuesday. even though it was a lot hotter than i'd want it to be, still had a blast in the 3 hours i was there (had to leave early for bMod practice). managed to ride the Matterhorn, then to CA Adventure to ride Mickey's Fun Wheel on the swinging gondola's *finally!* last time i went (which was only about once or twice in the last 10 years), the group i was with was too scared to ride it. toy story mania was closed, sadly. convinced jowena to ride a roller coaster with a loop for the first time ever in her life with CA Screamin. she did it! got herself a well-deserved ice cream afterwards, watched the pixar parade, then jowena and i headed to practice. alex and britt stayed a bit before heading out to visit.

bMod pool party later on today???

sets.

every dancer.. and maybe even some non-dancers that follow the community.. has that ONE set that they adore. the one they always refer to whenever someone asks them what they're favorite set ever was.

i've only had one set as my 'favorite set ever' since the beginning of my dance-ness and it's always been Kaba Modern's Bustagroove 2005 set.

but i'm sad to say.. that after watching common ground at ultimate brawl, they have bumped that performance down to my second.. their Vegas set from Ultimate Brawl 2009 is SICK.

truly inspiring. and if you know me, i'm not a big fan of watching dance videos/performances much... upcoming year(s): bMod yall better work!

fusion.

fusion x was this past sunday.

bmod had a pretty good performance, but for me.. the event itself wasn't too enjoyable. i dont know.. the whole atmosphere backstage felt like it lost all sense of the dance community, especially in comparison to last year. it's not saying too much since last year was my first fusion experience.. but that experience just felt so much better. the dance teams backstage were mingling like no other. i felt like we were all there just to have fun and dance. but this time, it was lacking in so many ways, but at the same time in such a way that i can't put my finger on what was missing.. i thought it was a personal issue, but after talking to some people about the event as a whole, they agreed that something was missing from fusion this year. but i have to put some recognition on our runner, Angelica. she was so welcoming and friendly and our entire team loved her! one of the best runners we've had at any event!

much love and congrats to COMMON GROUND for placing third!! so proud of them! their set was amazing!!

aside from the weird/awkward/something-missing-but-i-cant-put-my-finger-on-it experience at fusion, the road trip down to san diego as a whole was awesome! after saturday night's practice, we all got our stuff together/ready and finally headed out to SD. our car consisted of: alex (driver), brittany, nick, jay, albert, jowena, karl, and myself. had a blast with my Catchphrase game that took up a good hour of the ride there. finally got to alex's house. once everyone arrived, we got settled and all fell asleep. the entire house was a huge hotel room pretty much. woke up to an awesome breakfast compliments of the manucal parents! loved their hospitality! finally headed out to fusion after a few group pics in front of the house.

oh yeah, i also got attacked by alex's maltese. :( :( :( sadness major. it sucks because the night we got there, Charlie loved me. would not leave my lap, and kept hopping on me to lay on. then the day after, i try to pet him and he bites the hell out of my hand. and alex is amazed because charlie never bites anyone!! and up to now, three days after, i can still feel a bruise-like pain where i was bit. bah.. alex and i are now even, because when alex visited me while i house-sat my sister's place, he got bit by kobe.. haha.

after fusion, we all headed to rigoberto's which turned out to be a huge fail because everyone and their mom was there and we didn't feel like waiting, ended up going to roberto's to eat, then finally heading back to pomona. alex almost falling asleep multiple times on the road.

a couple more pictures from fusion/ucsd:

monday, the first day for what seems like a long time that bmod didn't have practice! alex was bored, so i picked him up and we headed to best buy for some random somewhat-shopping. i bought a cooling pad for my laptop. at first i thought it didn't work very well.. but that was because it was almost 90 degrees in my room.. but under normal laptop usage, i think it might work pretty well. a full-fledged review on the product in a later entry.

anyways, after best buy alex is hungry, so we go to in&out. i get something simple: fries and a milkshake. but he ate the world with a burger and fries.. and a few minutes later another TWO orders of fries. bro's a monster.

we then met up with kat, neil, and paul.. and head out to buffalo wild wings to end the night.

* * *

so can the hot weather stop already?! it's like spring just got skipped and the world went straight into summer! not enjoying it at all. but hope is nigh! today's high is supposed to be 79! which is almost 20 degrees cooler than these past two days. then the rest of the week (and even next week) will be in the lower 70's again.

random.. but as i typed this entry, my Time Warner Cable cut out and reconnected at least three times.. that's unacceptable! good thing i'm ditching this crappy internet service on thursday and replacing it with verizon FIOS. the deal we're getting isn't too much faster than what i have now, but it's still faster nonetheless, as well as cheaper, and hopefully a lot more reliable than TWC. goodbye TWC!!

the world is in an imbalance right now. a lot of bad things are happening to people close to me.. hopefully this bad spell passes soon...

wod.

bmod at WOD

World of Dance was amazing. i've been to a few WOD's already, and that event is tiring as hell.. so being a performer at this year's, i was expecting exhaustion. i was right... but it was well worth it. more info on my WOD experience in a later entry, but for now, check out our performance VIDEO.

[[ edit ]]: continued.. i said i'd go into detail about my awesome World of Dance experience.. but honestly.. there's not much i can write about.. i simply just sat around most of the time watching the team's stuff so they can walk around since it was most of their first times at a WoD.. we then got ready to perform, then we killed it, then we watched the rest of the competition.. and left.. but it was still an awesome experience for me. really proud of my team. afterwards, we all met up at Denny's where some of GRV and Choreo Cookies also ate.

vent.

IMGP6443peekaboo! how creepy paparrazo do i look.. meh..

so bMod had a performance at the 2nd annual dance community awards this past saturday. it went great! i haven't felt that kind of a rush in while. thank you to the great hospitality of v.ent dance team. it was nice sharing the stage with mavyn and abdc's team millennia. after watching our performance video numerous times and noting all the many changes we could make to get our set better and stronger, i could tell the team is getting hungrier. only good can come out of that.

CHECK OUT THE PERFORMANCE HERE!

speaking of bMod, the barkada modern website was recently hacked into. that website is like my baby. the hacking culprits didn't do too much to the website though; all they really did was change the main page to a plain white html page with text reading something like "owned by -=M.O.B.=-" all i had to do was log in, get the files back in order, and change the account password. and everything was back to normal..

until the next day, when our website was suspended do to misuse and overuse. i contacted HostPC and inquired about the issue at hand. they told me that every website under the server that bMod's website was hosted on was hacked into and all the websites (probably thousands) had to be shut down. i just had to request a ticket to get our website moved to a different server. i chose New York because they would have lesser natural disasters than Texas and Florida (our website has experienced downtime when Florida was hit with hurricanes). a few hours later, our website was up and running, but rewinded back to February because it was the last backup that HostPC made of the website. so nothing important was really lost, except the shoutbox had a bunch of 'happy valentine's day' messages.. haha.

anyways that whole thing probably made no sense to many of you.. so here's to something that DOES make sense:

on my way to chad's house to get an XP install disc to repair jay's computer, i was driving on the freeway and my air conditioner was blasting (it was randomly hot that hour). and as i'm driving on the freeway, something flies out of my a/c vent towards me. my first reaction is.. "BEE!!!" so i'm trying to keep control of the car while darting around and contorting my body in weird ways trying to get away or find the bee that flew at me. and when i get a chance to look down, i notice that whatever-it-was landed on my shirt. and then i noticed it was just a piece of foam.

fail.

kbye.

rand.

wobz is back from america's best dance crew and is able to hang out with the team again! we've missed her dearly. sad to see tm voted off. but happy to have wobz back here. their last routine (the britney week) was awesome.

february is such a crazy month for birthdays! there's one almost every week! cesar carissa arvin robbie paul jowena.. so pretty much it's been a very celebratory few weeks.. panda inn, cesar's house, joe's sushi, lax, jowena's apt.. with bamboo bistro tonight and joe's sushi again next week.. not planning to eat anything at bamboo bistro tonight though.. it's weird to pay for filipino food when i can get pretty much any kind at home cooked for 'free'.. haha. and i cant stand going somewhere and paying for something thinking, "hmm, my mom makes this better.."

chris cornell's (of soundgarden/audioslave) album leaked! admittedly, soundgarden and audioslave fans are going to hate this album with a passion. but with major collabos with timbaland, along with some with justin timberlake and ryan tedder of onerepublic, it makes for a very interesting sound.

i'm hoping this stormy weather continues until the week of our retreat!!

si.

team millennia's 5th annual summer intensive showcase was tonight, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. that's saying a lot considering how bored i get at most dance shows. also helps to know people who are performing. good job all around especially to past and present bmod and sheroes! always feel inspiration at any show regardless of who performs.. wish more of the team would come out to things like this.

this is completely random, but the little apple gadgets are called "ipod shuffle" and "ipod touch," NOT "iShuffle" and "iTouch." saying "iShuffle" sounds like you're about to do a weird dance... and saying "iTouch" sounds like you molest children..

another thing that is totally random: you know what hurts a lot? when a friend of mine, someone who is dear to me, works so hard to take another thing that is dear to me and tries to destroy it -- yet i still hold this person in high regard.. if you can follow that and make sense of it, then you can understand that the situation is a hard one to deal with..

last random thing, this just simply made me laugh:
burn
pwn3d. fail.

anyways.. i'm just a ball of confusion with a bunch of stuff regarding everything and nothing right now; here's to better days..

palm.

yesterday was palm sunday. and that marks the beginning of holy week. which also marks the end of the 40 nights that Jesus fasted in the desert. so for all you people dying over what you gave up for Lent, you can technically do it now.. or be extra good and wait till Easter. i'm not complaining cuz that just means one more friday for cheap filet-o-fish sandwiches from mcdonald's. those things are awesome. and ridiculously overpriced outside of Lent season. and WHY haven't i seen them do the 99cent 6-piece chicken nuggets in forever?

saturday was the world of dance tour. the crowd outcome was as i expected, but the venue(s) to fit that huge crowd was smaller than i thought it would be. i dont think i've seen that many dancers in one place. although, i didn't get to see a single performance; even the ones i was there for. i was helping run the rooted table for most of the time, so bert can finally watch Sheroes perform. thanks to vince, a lot of us got extra vip status bracelets: i was a vendor, performer, and at the end when i didn't even need my camera anymore, got media access. so most of my world of dance pictures were taken by vangie.

last night, froi mark and i visited jackie and mel's apt and watched 'the eye' and 'el orfanato.' and i must say, those guys are hilarious watching scary movies. i dont know what mark is talking about when he says he 'laughs' at scary movies.. cuz he definitely was not laughing last night. and poor scruffy (jackie's dog) would wake up and adjust his sleeping position every time the two would scream at the movie.

and then i came home and in all randominity, found that my sister jokingly left this on my desk:

IMGP5801
grillz candy.. wtf??

it's candy.. more specifically, a lollipop. like an old school ring pop.. except the 'ring' is instead a grill you put over your front teeth. i just had a "what is the world coming to???" moment. weirdness indeed.

essence.

i went to the essence workshops/auditions tonight with hannah froi mark and james. loved the choreo. it wasn't "girl specific" either so i wanted to learn it. but didnt. just watched. and when i got home, i noticed my laptop wasn't closed.. great, that means kobe walked all over the keyboard while i was gone. i get out of the screensaver and find this in an IM to chad (not sent though..)

cxhjmdffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy=[-pppppppwqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqRKJ ,M=[-PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP-WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

so that's the result of a cat and a keyboard.

<nerd> trying out apple's "safari" browser for windows. back when mac-biting was the cool thing to do on windows machines, i'd be all over it.. but after using it.. i dunno, yeah it renders pages crazy fast. and i'd actually prefer it to internet explorer.. but something about it makes me keep going back to firefox. it might be the fact that it keeps the apple aqua theme in tact so it actually looks the same that it would on a mac machine. the font smoothing makes text look different than any other application, and the aqua buttons and that gray itunes color just make it feel tacky when using it on vista. plus i've gotten spoiled by all the extensions and add-ons i've added to firefox (i'm using the nightly beta build 3.0b3). </nerd>

bmod gets to meet some of their biggest fans from pomona high school later on today when they perform for the teachers vs seniors basketball game. that should be fun and interesting..

and a survey... )

fresh.

so bmod just decided to totally kill it at so fresh, if you havent seen it yet, heryago:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kt9Mz4crRVM

i've performed enough times to know that feeling you get after totally killing a performance.. so the first thing i could think of doing after the lights turned off was running outside and sharing it with them. a feeling i miss all too much.

wallalal.

today, the maxt out dvd came in the mail. it was nice to relive the moment. although not that nice. imagine a little asian school girl giggling after hearing a big secret and jumping up and down; and you have my reaction to the win. embarrassment++.

i also went out and bought the transformers dvd. nothing that special in the extras, but nice to have the movie that isn't an illegal high quality bootleg.

it was my first practice where i didn't dance today as well. had to resist the urge to learn the routine. i didn't want to start something i know i wouldn't finish. it wouldn't look too good and would set a bad example for the new additions to the team.

autobots.

so after seeing my favorite movie of the summer 3 times when it came out, i was absolutely crushed to find that there wasn't going to be a score release for transformers. hearing that autobot theme in the movie kept me at the edge of my seat. i'm not putting the soundtrack down, that was a great rock album.. nicely placed driving music. but if you know me in any way, scores are what really get me.. especially composers in remote control productions (previously known as media ventures, aka school of hans zimmer). although my favorite, gregson-williams, didn't compose for transformers, it still hit me in a way an hgw score would. steve jablonsky scored the film, and is mostly known for his collaborative work on big names like armageddon and enemy of the state. also scores for desperate housewives (not the theme, that was danny elfman). you usually hear his work coming into or out of commercials, or when one of the women are doing something sneaky. there was a big outcry when it was announced that a score would not be released. and petition after petition came from all directions. voices were heard, and now, nearing the same time as the dvd movie release, the score has finally been released as well. and i have a first listen.

i'm not expecting to be blown away from this score as it isn't done by one of my favorite composers, and it seemed to blend so well with the visual effects of the movie that i'm not sure how it'll stand on its own as an audio cue. but if the autobot theme alone can stand for the rest of the score, it should play pretty well. i don't see how large transformers machine car things goes with a female choir, but it works. and is one of the most memorable cues from the movie. i also enjoy listening to soccent attack (scene where blackout destroys army base). just sounds of power and the male choir chanting goes all too well together. 'sam at the lake,' one of the more carefree parts of the movie, really shows the desperate housewives side of jablonsky. you can almost just throw that cue into the abc show and it would work. although i haven't given it a full listen just yet, i'm sure it wont be too long before i can get an overall review of the score. [edit]: just listened to "arrival to earth" (scene where the other autobots fly in from the sky as meteor things. earGASM!

this past weekend was fun. thanks to eric and chloe for having us.

two days of auditions have passed. and i'm very happy with the turnout and skill that i'm seeing. although each day that comes closer to deliberations is one day closer to my not dancing for a long time. sadness and relief at the same time. it's such a hard time to go too. my pride in the team is so high. but there just comes a time... as an active historian again this year, it'll be weird not being an active dancer.
